My Family Budget Essay - 1084 Words

Our Families Budget In our budgeting group, we had a family of five. We had a mother, father, two children and an elderly person. We decided to live in Fort Collins, Colorado and our total monthly income was 4,775.52. Both the mom and the dad had stable jobs, one working as a janitor and the other a nurse. Our first month was simple, and within month two we had good luck and received lottery winnings, but one of our primary caretakers lost their job. Once the third month came we had to buy new tires and pay for our child to be on the basketball team. Throughout creating our budget I learned two things. First, if our society would put in more time valuing the community, money would not be as much of an issue. Secondly, creating a budget is the easy part, sticking to the budget is what I found more challenging. We decided that we did not want to construct our family where one is the main breadwinner and wanted to make sure that we were egalitarian. We never talked about what class we were in but I believ e that we are a nuclear family in middle class. In the beginning, we as a group already had an advantage, Ric already knew a lot about budgeting and what resources to use because his job helps people with exactly what we are assigned to do. Ric used most of his personal knowledge and experience to find how much everything was going to cost.
